Assignment #1: Analysis of a Community’s Health

Course Outcome

NU450-4: Develop collaboration with community partners regarding health data, services, resources, and programs.

Introduction

You know that many factors affect the public’s health. In order to take action to improve population health in your community, it is important that community leaders and health care providers collaborate to address population health concerns.

Directions

For this Assignment you will create a presentation of your assessed risks to population health in your community. The audience for your presentation is a mock town council.

In the summary you will:

  1. Identify four priority health concerns, with supporting rationale.
  2. Propose four nursing interventions to address these concerns, with supporting rationale.
  3. Propose three short term goals, with supporting rationale.
  4. Identify four outcomes that will reflect improvement in the health of the community.

Create a presentation using PowerPoint©. You will also need to add audio to your presentation.

  1. Prepare to record the narration. Open the presentation and Click the SlideShow tab on the menu bar. Click the Record Slide Show button and select Start Recording From Beginning from the pull-down menu. The Record Slide Show dialog box will open. Place a check in the Narrations check box and click Start Recording. The Slide Show preview window will open.
  2. Record the narration. Click the right-pointing arrow in the left corner of the preview window to begin the narration. Pause the narration at any time by clicking the pause button on the Recording shortcut menu, located in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Assignment Requirements

  1. Use principles of sound reasoning, such as identifying the issues, formulating inferences, determining conclusions, and assessing implications.
  2. Use a minimum of three references. One can be your text.
  3. Include a title and reference slide(s).

Before finalizing your work, you should:

  • be sure to read the Assignment description carefully (as displayed above);
  • consult the Grading Rubric (under the Course Resources) to make sure you have included everything necessary; and
  • utilize spelling and grammar check to minimize errors.

Your writing Assignment should:

  • follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.);
  • be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful;
  • display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics;
  • be double spaced and in 12-point Times New Roman font; and
  • use APA 6th Edition formatting and citation style.

The audio portion of your Assignment should:

  • exhibit strong oral communication techniques including word choice and oral expressiveness;
  • display exceptional content, organization, and style; and
  • lead the audience to a dynamic and supported conclusion.
