Jobs that I would consider applying for are in the positions of Health and Wellness coaching and Medical assistance at a healthcare facility. The position of health and wellness coach involves serving people that need wellness coaching services via multiple methods such as in-person or telephone. A health and wellness coach helps individuals to achieve life-style changes and behaviors to support positive health outcomes (Wolever et al., 2016). In this position, one works with identified populations using behavioral and physical assessment tools as well as educational intervention. The roles of a health and wellness coach include assessing a population’s readiness for behavioral change, using assessment intrustments and tools to identify a population’s health and wellness needs, providing coaching and education on behavioral change, educating the assigned population about lifestyle choices that support healthy living, coordinating with care givers to provide appropriate referrals, monitoring and documenting coaching interventions, conducting health and wellness workshops and educational programs, and performing biometric screenings and interpreting the results to assigned populations.
On the other hand, the position of a medical assistant involves working alongside physicians to provide patient care in healthcare institutions (Bonewit-West & Hunt, 2019). The role of a medical assistant includes aiding with treatment orders as supervised by the registered nurse, perform certain clinical duties like patient scheduling, patient conducting interviews, measuring vital signs, recording patient information on patient’s charts, conducting clerical data, performing certain management functions, and documenting healthcare provider’s engagement with patients.
I would want to hone in on the position of Registered Nurse and explore it further in the future. Some of the skills that a registered nurse should manifest include good communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, and stress management. These are among other elements that help one to become a competent RN. The abilities of a RN include leadership, caregiving, as well as the ability to educate others. A registered nurse should behave in a manner that reflects empathy, mental stability and willingness to learn. Knowledge areas for a RN include medicine, biology, therapy and counselling among others.
The certifications for a RN include a bachelors, associate’s degree or diploma in nursing. Further, different states have different licensure requirements to practice within a given scope. The role of a RN requires one to work with different patient populations based on specialty areas like psychiatry, oncology or emergency. They also would work with patients from different ages to provide care in different areas from neonates to geriatric patients. The salary range for RNs in the US is $50,000 to $70,000 per year. Some employers provide additional benefits including medical, paid holidays and paid-off-time incentives. Transferable skills that I have acquired from previous positions include communication, problem solving and performing certain clinical tasks. These skills would be relevant for the RN position as they align with necessary skills and abilities for RNs.
Two of my short term career objectives include advancing into the medical field through medical assisting training programs, and advancing to health and medical services managerial role. These short term goals require extensive training, and educational experience. In the long term, I would like to pursue a career in nursing by enrolling for a degree program. The second long term career objective is serving as an APN on the board of directors to contribute towards nursing and patient care. These long term goals require one to advance in terms of education and gain more experience working in the field.
