The instructor greeted and checked on the student’s progress. Some of the students reported having two to three classes left, while others mentioned that they would be graduating on 16th march. The instructor commended the students for finishing the course and even meeting the graduation requirements amidst the pandemic. She mentioned that students could have opportunities after graduation, for instance, graduate school or joining the workforce. The instructor encouraged the students to think about their options. Completing BSN is a prerequisite for filing for several positions in nursing.
The instructor went over the requirements for week ten. She mentioned that everything should be completed by Sunday evening. The students can also send an email for an extension If they have difficulties submitting the assignment on time to Tuesday evening. In unit ten, students can use a template to fill in the information. There will be an introduction and summary. This would be similar to the unit five assignment. Unit 10 is related to disaster management, particularly a hurricane, for example, Katrina. The students can keep in mind some of the emergencies that students can face, for instance, ice storms, floods, tornadoes, weather emergencies, or hurricanes. The students can use different disasters for the assignment because the process of disaster response has common approaches. The instructor urged the students to think about community prepared to respond collaboratively in case of a disaster. The disaster in Texas showed that the community around had difficulties in movement.
The hospitals have an emergency plan on how they would get in patients in and out of the hospital or get other staff to attend to them. The preparedness of the community is paramount. Those directly impacted by the disaster are the neighboring communities with many associated problems, such as those on ventilators or oxygen. In light of an emergency, such patients may suffer if there is a backup of generations. In discharge planning, nurse practitioners should ensure that they have generators and a nearby fire fighting department. Evacuations of these people require proper planning of transporting them and where to be taken considering the technological requirements. Displacement of people and separation of families such as kids in school would be the most devastated. Similarly, refugees, immigrants, and the homeless would also be affected in case of a disaster.
