The instructor started by checking up on the students, the weather, and their work environment. The current weather storms have interfered with resources and can hardly be able to heat their homes. The instructor also reported that they were without power for one week and had to move in with friends who had generators. The vulnerable population, such as the homeless in Texas, may have suffered from the storms. The elders, nursing homes, and hospitals were also interfered with by this situation.
The differences in weather patterns have enabled people to learn coping mechanisms to pull resources together and get through adverse environmental events. The students reported that the most damaging events they are likely to experience would be flooding, extreme snow, tornados, ice storms, and cold weather. The students said being well prepared for such eventualities through alert systems, generators, and tornado shelters built in homes to address the environmental situations.
The communities have searched for mechanisms to better the situation from previous events; however preventive measures would be highly recommended. This would help individuals to meet their immediate needs and those of the community. Disaster planning and management will be dealt with in units 8 and 9. Unit 8 assignment will involve presenting education, hence build on unit 6 education plan to move forward. You will identify a problem that individuals in a population and look at education presentation could be presented. The students will need to consult an expert and develop a presentation through zoom, conference call, and skype. Further, the students will be required to document the rationale for choosing the topic and the community resource person to partner with. A brief narrative is needed preceding the presentation. The assignment would be an audio presentation on slides without speaker notes. Also, identify learning objectives in the content, such as diabetic management. For example, participants would understand insulin in terms of route and dosage and administration. The evaluation would be ninety percent of the participants were able to prepare insulin ready for administration. A brief questionnaire could be present in the presentation as a separate document. Teaching aids could be included in the PowerPoint presentation to aid the understanding of the participants.
